He is most well-known for his performance poetry with a political edge for both children and adults and gritty teenage fiction. He was the creator, principal writer and performer of the infamous Goon Show. Spike received an honorary CBE in 1992 and Knighthood in 2000. She was widely known for her remarkable contribution to children's books, and was awarded the MBE in 1974. She retired from Puffin 1979, but continued her involvement with children's books. Kaye Webb died in January 1996.
