This book investigates domestic migration and migration intentions in China from the individual, city, and provincial levels. Since the 1990s, accompanying the rapid urbanization, an important feature of China’s social transition is its large-scale interregional migration, which has reshaped China’s economic geography and population distribution and greatly affected the socio-economic development. The floating population, migrants working and living in the destination cities without local hukou, have aroused wide public concern in the past decades. Based on China’s national population census data and China Migrants Dynamic Survey data, this book comprehensively employs statistical analysis, spatial analysis, network analysis, econometric and spatial econometric methods to analyze the spatial pattern and influencing mechanism of internal migration and migration intentions of floating population from different levels and different perspectives. The research results of this book have significant policy implications for the urban governance on the floating population. The novelty of this book is that it comprehensively investigates domestic migration and migration intentions from the individual, city and provincial levels, combining their spatial patterns and network structures. It not only provides a wealth of case studies for domestic migration research in China, but also broadens the research scope of spatial demography by employing new methods of spatial econometrics (such as MGWR and ESF). This book is suitable for undergraduates and graduates majoring in Human Geography, Regional Economics, Urban Planning and Urban Governance, as well as related researchers and practitioners.

This book covers the low fertility in China that has drawn wide attention and exerts a far-reaching influence on the population development. In this book, with population census and sample survey data, and mathematical demographic methods and statistical methods, the authors systematically examined China’s fertility levels over the past decades, fertility patterns, changes in birth numbers, projected the future population and simulated the 4-2-1 family structure and families bereaved of only child. The authors developed a series of models and methods, got some important results, and drew some important conclusions, which provides reference for understanding the changing trend in China’s fertility levels and patters, and for further relaxing China’s fertility policy.

Focusing on county-level urbanization in Sichuan Province, this book analyzes return migrants’ residential choices across three dimensions: Willingness to Return Housing Purchase Behavior Residential Location Preferences Research Focus and Methodology First, based on human capital theory and cost-benefit analysis, the study examines how career opportunities, public service access, and migration costs influence the willingness to return. Second, using spatial analysis and nonlinear models, it explores the effects of economic characteristics and local environments on housing decisions. Third, integrating job-housing integration and family life cycle theories, it investigates returning families' residential preferences and their impact on urbanization. This book is innovative in both approach and method: It integrates multi-level spatial choices across county towns, small towns, and villages to uncover regional differences in migration behavior. By combining spatial differentiation indicators with nonlinear analysis, it reveals how personal traits and environments interact, showing spatial and group differences. The mixed-methods approach blends quantitative analysis with qualitative insights for a comprehensive understanding of return migration. Theoretically, this book enriches migration research by examining residential choices in the context of new urbanization, using large-sample data from China. Practically, it provides evidence for optimizing urbanization policies, enhancing county-level population retention, and improving living conditions for return migrants. The findings offer valuable policy support for advancing county-level urbanization and rural-urban integration in western China.

This book analyzes the wealth management of mid-high net worth individuals and families. As China's economy develops and people's living standards improve, more and more families are becoming well-off and the middle-income group continues to expand. After creating wealth and becoming rich, better guarding, spreading and enjoying wealth is not only an urgent challenge faced by more and more micro-families, but also an inevitable need to enrich and energize people's livelihood and the connotation of a good life.Mid-high net worth people are an organic part of China's middle-income group, as well as the future coordinates of many families that have just crossed into the middle-income group. An accurate portrait of this group and an in-depth study of the needs, habits, ways and effects of their family wealth management and distribution are conducive to better responding to the demands of affluent families to "keep, pass on and enjoy wealth," as well as exploring the path of solidly promoting common prosperity at the micro-family level. From this perspective, Institute of Social Science Survey of Peking University has conducted a panoramic analysis on mid-high net worth people from panel survey with more 16,000 households in China after 10 years of tracking and investigation, from six aspects: behavioral patterns, financial asset allocation, non-financial asset allocation, commercial insurance allocation, children's commercial medical insurance allocation and pension insurance allocation, the importance of which is self-evident. As the first systematic work on asset allocation and insurance protection of Chinese middle and high net worth families, although part of the purpose is to explore the demand for insurance protection and develop the commercial insurance market, there is no doubt that this study is an important reference for the government to formulate social security policies and for financial institutions to optimize the supply of family wealth services.
