Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890 and became, quite simply, the best-selling novelist in history.    Låt mig först säga att jag inte är något fan av Christies böcker. Mycket för att berättelserna saknar trovärdighet. Men hennes första böcker skrevs för över hundra år sedan och läsekretsen var förstås en annan. Den här boken, publicerad 1934, har med tiden också blivit en filmklassiker och kanske har jag omedvetet haft Albert Finney i bakhuvudet som Poirot.
   Mellan städerna Vinkovci och Brod fastnar Orientexpressen i snömassorna och resan utvecklas till ett låsta-rummet-mysterium där passagerarna utlämnas åt sig själva med en mördare på fri fot. Det här är trots allt en av de böcker av Agatha Christie som jag med gott samvete kan rekommendera, trovärdig eller ej. Och finns det någon mer klassisk inledning på en bok än den här: "It was five o'clock on a winter's morning in Syria."
