Mer om författaren
Grey Owl was born Archibald Stansfeld Belaney, the son of an aristocrat in Hastings, England, in 1888. Raised by his two aunts, he led a lonely childhood in England until 1906, when, at the tender age of seventeen, he emigrated to North America to live among the Native people. He returned to England a few years later to serve in the First World War, was wounded, and returned to live with the Ojibwe in northern Canada.
Recensioner i media
Grey Owl, one of Canada's first conservationists, is said to have saved the Canadian beaver from extinction. But his beginnings in Hastings were a world apart from his public image. Born Archibald Stansfeld Belaney, he grew up enthralled by stories of Native Americans and moved to Canada in search of a new life. He studied under an Ojibwa chief, becoming skilled in wilderness survival techniques. He also married an Iroquois woman who persuaded him to stop trapping animals and begin his writing and conservation work, warning of the dangers of the logging and fur industries. This book contains three of his most important works.
