PHILIP G. DWYER is Senior Lecturer in Modern European History at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He has published a number of articles on the Revolutionary and Napoleonic eras, is the editor of Napoleon and Europe (London, 2001), and has co-edited with Peter McPhee, The French Revolution and Napoleon: A Sourcebook (London, 2002).
