His decorations include: The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He is the author of several books including Why the Viet Cong Fought: A Study of Motivation and Control in a Modern Army in Combat (Greenwood Press, 1980).
