Local and Metropolitan Communication Systems

This text covers recent research results in the architecture and performance evaluation of technology associated with LAN and MAN communication systems. It contains the selected proceedings of the Third International Conference on Local and Metropolitan Communications Systems, organized by the International Federation for Information Processing and held in Kyoto, Japan, December 1994. The book assesses new technology in LAN and MAN, and explores the modelling and analysis of communication systems. Specific topics covered by Local and Metropolitan Communication Systems include: network management; multicast; ATM switch; ATM multiplexing; ATM traffic characterization; DQDB; new protocols in LAN and MAN; queuing models related to LAN and MAN. All those concerned with LAN and MAN systems will find this book of use, especially engineers, university professors and lecturers and those working in research and development. This book should be of interest to engineers and researchers in telecommunications and information technology.
