Syed Ahmad, MD, is the Director of the UC Cancer Center and is professor of surgery?at the UC College of Medicine. Dr. Ahmad became director of the UC Pancreatic Disease Center in 2007 and director of the division of surgical oncology in 2015 and the director of the UC Cancer Center in 2020. A nationally recognized leader in oncologic surgery for pancreas and hepatobiliary cancers, he has published over 200 articles and chapters and edited several textbooks. He has delivered over 150 national and international lectures. Dr. Ahmad also plays a major role within the Southwest Oncology Group serving as the Chair of the Surgery Sub-committee. He serves as a reviewer for over 20 prestigious clinical and research journals, is Associate Editor for the Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancers and the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, and Deputy Editor for Annals of Surgical Oncology, and serves on the editorial boards of five journals. Currently he chairs the Clinical Trial Committee for the AHPBA and the Membership Committee for the Central Surgical. Dr. Aurora Pryor is Vice Chair of Surgery, Chief of Bariatric, Foregut and Advanced GI Surgery and Director of the Bariatric and Metabolic Weight Loss Center at Stony Brook. She is also director of the Advanced GI/MIS/Bariatric/Foregut fellowship at Stony Brook. Dr. Pryor was the 2019-2020 President of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). Dr. Pryor currently serves on the American Board of Surgery as a Councilor and on the General Surgery Board. Dr. Pryor serves the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as the NY chapter President. She is past President of the Eastern Long Island Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the Fellowship Council. She is an Associate Editor for Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, and has served as Subject Editor for Surgical Endoscopy. She serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Surgery and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. In 2021, she has helped to start the Women's Leadership in Surgery Society for which she is the inaugural President. Dr. Pryor's work has appeared in more than 200 publications and she has co-edited four textbooks.

The objective of providing a comprehensive, authoritative, updated text is a highly worthy one-[it] succeeds admirably. This book could be used by surgical trainees with particular interest in the GI tract but will probably be of greatest value to surgeons actively practicing in this area,... [and] could be of value to gastroenterologists seeking insight into the detailed nature of surgical procedures available to treat gastrointestinal pathology....
