Beskrivning
Photonic Crystal, Plasmonic, and Hybrid Interfaces, Volume 1: Foundations of Photonic-Crystal and Plasmonic Modalities provides a comprehensive foundation in the two optical platforms underlying photo-plasmonic interfaces. Drawing on principles of optics, electromagnetism, chemical physics, and materials science, it explains the fundamental mechanisms governing light-matter interactions in photonic-crystal and plasmonic systems, while covering the design, fabrication, characterization, and applications of each platform.

The volume is organized into two sections: the first covers photonic-crystal interfaces, from photonic bandgaps and simulation through design, fabrication, characterization, planar functional interfaces, integrated nanoscale devices, and enhanced spectroscopy. The second develops plasmonic interfaces, from substrates and nanoantennas through LSPR applications, cavity-free photon-plasmon hybridization, SPP applications, and graphene-based devices. Each section progresses systematically from theory to application, supported by worked examples, review questions, and concluding remarks.

Providing a complete foundation in photonic-crystal and plasmonic interfaces, this volume serves as both a learning resource and reference for graduate students, researchers, and engineers working with either or both platforms. It can be used independently or as a foundation for the hybrid photo-plasmonic interfaces addressed in Volume 2.

With Forewords by Prof. Eli Yablonovitch (University of California, Berkeley, California, USA), Prof. Paul V. Braun (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA) and Prof. Andrea Al (City University of New York, New York, USA).

  • Builds both foundational platforms - photonic crystals and plasmonics - from first principles through design, fabrication, characterization, and standalone applications
  • Provides pedagogical support throughout, with worked examples, review questions, and concluding remarks suited to teaching and self-study
  • Offers a standalone foundation and reference on photonic-crystal and plasmonic interfaces, while preparing readers for the hybrid photo-plasmonic systems covered in Volume 2
