True Blood and Philosophy

GEORGE A. DUNN is a lecturer at the University of Indianapolis and Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, China. He contributed to Battlestar Galactica and Philosophy, X-Men and Philosophy, Terminator and Philosophy, Twilight and Philosophy, Alice in Wonderland and Philosophy, Iron Man and Philosophy, and Mad Men and Philosophy. REBECCA HOUSEL, a former professor of writing and popular culture, is now an author and editor serving on editorial advisory boards for the Journal of Popular Culture and the Journal of American Culture. She coedited Twilight and Philosophy and X-Men and Philosophy. WILLIAM IRWIN is a professor of philosophy at King’s College. He originated the philosophy and popular culture genre of books as coeditor of the bestselling The Simpsons and Philosophy and has overseen recent titles, including Batman and Philosophy, House and Philosophy, and Alice in Wonderland and Philosophy.

   En trueblood-bibel.

   Som läsare får man ta del av de flesta olika infallsvinklar kring vampyrer och dess antagonister i vampyrsamhället Bon Temps i den amerikanska flodträsksödern. När man läser litteraturen blir det enkelt att uppskatta de olika typerna av vampyrer i böckerna och tv-serien. Att besöka olika kulturella fenomen och göra en kritisk diskursanalys blir spännande för en själv som person när man har läst de bakomliggande faktorerna i böckerna och dess prägling av populärkultur i det amerikanska samhället. Var kan man köpa Trueblood? :) Boken tar upp en hel kring filosofin kring vampyrer som har filmatiserats och beskrivits i ett flertal olika filmer och böcker under de senaste årtiondena. Den första delen av bokens artiklar behandlar ämnen som hur människan har kommit att vävas samman med vampyrer i olika miljöer och hur dessa sedermera har framställts och hur människans fascination för vampyrer har skapat et eget cosplay-tema och hur vampyrer klär sig. Vissa delar av boken handlar även om till exempel tv-serien True Blood och vilka typer av väsen och figurer som huserar i den miljön som beskrivs i samhället Bon Temps och närliggande träskmarker. Författarna till delartiklarna i boken skriver även om hur politikens kring vampyrers rättigheter i kontrast till människans och man kan ta del av hur de representeras på samma sätt som andra marginaliserade grupper i samhället och den fiktion som hör till och samhällena som filmatiseras och skapas i genren för övrigt. Det förs även en form av CDA (kritisk diskursanalys) av hur olika varelsers sexualitet och vänskaps förband formas och utlevs och hur vanor av olika slag spelar in i vardagen och hjälper både människor och vampyrer att utforska varandras miljöer och etiska riktlinjer. I bokens slutkapitel och de tillhörande artiklarna kan man även läsa om vilka problematiseringar som finns med det onaturliga hos vampyrer och deras egenskaper med den mänskliga kroppen för övrigt. För en person som uppskattar tv-serien True blood och böckerna som ligger till grund för filmatiseringen är denna bok närmast ett måste för att kunna få en fördjupad bild av hur hela tv-serien är uppbyggd och man kan som betraktare få ett helt annat sätt att se på historien i sig.
