   understand relativity on a basic level, then this is the book to read. Written by Einstein himself in 1916, it gives you a real feeling how E thinks, how lucid his writings are and - once you get to understand his explanation of the Lorentz transform - in my view a good understanding of the special relativtiy teory.
   
   Not in matemathical terms of course, but an understanding that gives you a firm footing in believing the rest of the statements in E's teories to be right. E knew is his place in the world of sience, but he also wanted to be understood by the layman. In 1916 he was barely known and his teories was not accepted or confirmed as they are today. But he never doubted them.
