Songs of Something Else

A bilingual edition of one of Sweden’s most important poetsSongs of Something Else presents seventy-five poems by Gunnar Ekelöf, one of the most important Scandinavian and European poets of the twentieth century. These poems are drawn from Ekelöf’s middle period (1938–1959), during which he wrote some of his richest and most enduring poetry and established himself as a central figure in Swedish literature. The translators introduce and discuss Ekelöf’s work, offer a close analysis of one poem, “Dordogne,” and provide explanatory notes to the poems. The volume also features the original Swedish texts on facing pages.
