    Beskrivning

Since the arrival of Huthi rule in Sana’a in 2014, Yemen has suffered from intense war, foreign intervention and political, economic and humanitarian crises. This book explores peace in Yemen, including how the international community has approached peacemaking in the country, how Yemenis perceive peace, and what is needed to achieve a more peaceful future for the country. The book covers the emergence of Huthi rule and the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen, through to the Huthi escalations in the Red Sea and conflict with Israel in 2024–25. In doing so, the authors examine the constraints on making and building peace in Yemen from various key angles, such as: regional and international engagement; politics, society, gender and the economy; the realities of present-day Yemen; and what these mean for peace and conflict now and in the future. The book challenges the methods and practices of normative international peacemaking, including the women, peace and security agenda. It also challenges assumptions and ideas about the internationally recognized government, and the Huthis and Yemen more broadly. In aiming to show how Yemen can reach a better future, this research will interest policymakers, mediators and humanitarian and development workers who want to deepen their understanding of a country where decades of conflict and crises have posed major challenges.

    Recensioner i media

With Yemeni society and politics undergoing dramatic changes due to the ongoing conflict, this volume presents novel research and data. Its diverse contributions challenge the notion that collective knowledge is at a standstill. By focusing on peace, the authors offer readers reason not to despair, suggesting that mechanisms for peacebuilding may emerge from within Yemeni society.
