Calvin B. Kendall is a professor of English and Germanic philology at the University of Minnesota. His publications include The Metrical Grammar of Beowulf (Cambridge, 1991). Peter S. Wells is a professor of anthropology and the director of the Center for Ancient Studies at the University of Minnesota. His publications include Farms, Villages and Cities: Commerce and Urban Origins in Late Prehistoric Europe (Ithaca, 1984) and “Iron Age Temperate Europe” Some Current Research Issues,” Journal of World Prehistory (1990).
