Hibeh Papyri. Vol. I

This book presents a comprehensive examination of recently unearthed fragments of literary papyri from the Ptolemaic Kingdom of ancient Egypt (305-30 BCE). These fragments, found in the wrappings of mummies at Hibeh, provide invaluable insights into Greek literature and culture during this period. The author analyzes these fragments, some of which belong to previously known works, while others are entirely new. These fragments shed light on the literary preferences, reading habits, and intellectual pursuits of the Greek-speaking population in Ptolemaic Egypt. By examining the themes, styles, and historical references within these texts, the book contributes to our understanding of the transmission of Greek literary works, the development of literary genres, and the cultural exchange between Greece and Egypt in the Hellenistic period.
