Rui Pedro Gonçalves Pereira, academic trained as a Biologist,avid for the applied side of research (but with total respect forfundamental science). Completed his PhD in 2004, working onthe life-cycle of North Atlantic Porphyra, seeking its application inEurope. After a typical research career, in 2012 moved to thebusiness world and co-founded an IMTA land-based seaweedaquaculture company, then the first in Europe. Since 2020 he isthe Head of Seaweed Division of A4F, a Portuguese companyat the forefront of algae biotechnology.
