Social Transformations and Sociology

Filomin Gutierrez, PhD, is Professor of Sociology at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she teaches deviance and social control, sociology of violence, and research methods in the Department of Sociology. Her scholarly work includes book chapters and journal articles on crime and delinquency, the history of Philippine criminology, prison gangs, fraternities, masculinity, and violence. She has served as President of the Philippine Sociological Society, Vice-President of the Philippine Social Science Council, and Vice-President for National Associations of the International Sociological Association (ISA). The volume she edited, Crime and Punishment in the Philippines: Beyond Politics and Spectacle, published by the Philippine Social Science Council, received the 2022 Outstanding Book Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines (NAST).Borut Roncevic, PhD, is Professor of Sociology at the University of Novo Mesto, Slovenia and senior research fellow at Rudolfovo–Science and Technology Centre (Novo mesto, Slovenia). He is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Sociological Association. He held the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship at Aalborg University (Denmark) and was a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence in Troy University (USA) and Jean Monnet Chair. In his work he is focusing on developmental performance in East and Central Europe, and on issues of regional development, innovations and circular economy. He was a visiting scholar at institutions in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Denmark, Norway, Lebanon, and Croatia.
