Chinese Childhood

First published in 1940 (reissuing the third edition of 1946), A Chinese Childhood by Chiang Yee provides a delightful and humorous glimpse into the author’s formative years, capturing his experiences from ages five to fifteen accompanied by descriptions of Chinese customs and festivals. Through a series of charming anecdotes rather than a strict chronological narrative, Chiang invites readers into a world of childhood wonder, exploring the customs and festivals while showing how they differ across a vast and diverse country like China.
