Beskrivning
Restoration Design: A Reader on the Landscape Architecture of Novel Social Ecological Systems challenges conventional restoration ecology by presenting a holistic approach that transcends returning landscapes to imagined original states. It brings together three dozen essays establishing "restoration design" as an integrative discipline at the interface of nature and culture, creating novel social-ecological systems for both people and ecosystems. Drawing on landscape architecture, environmental philosophy, and sustainable development, the book critiques restoration ecology's limitations while offering regenerative solutions through international case studies. The book represents the first systematic compilation of conceptual reflections on restoration as a creative, forward-looking practice rather than backward-looking reconstruction.Uniquely presents theoretical and philosophical essays on restoration design as a distinct discipline, addressing critical gaps in restoration ecology literature.Combines landscape architecture, restoration ecology, environmental philosophy, and sustainable development to create novel social-ecological systems.Includes case studies and examples from post-industrial and devastated landscapes across the United States, Italy, Iraq, England, and Cambodia
