Reconstructing Ancient Athens is a year-by-year discussion of events in the late Archaic and Classical periods integrating all facets of Greek society: art and architecture; poetry, music, and drama; government, politics, and law; philosophy and religion; and inter-polis relations and wars. This is prefaced by an extended discussion of the social context in which Greek, and specifically Athenian, society developed. Also included is a set of appendices with supplemental reference material.
