The historic city of Norwich was once one of the largest cities in England outside London. The city was transformed by industrialisation less than other cities in the country but the city has seen massive changes in the last century. Many old buildings were demolished when the tram system installed in the 1900s, areas were cleared for new housing in the 1920s, a new city hall was build in the 1930s and aerial bombardment in the Second World War brought significant destruction to parts of the city. New shopping centres and the ring road were built in the 1960s, and change continues up to recent decades. with the new civic centre replacing the fire-destroyed central library.Lost Norwich presents a portrait of this corner of the east of England showing how it has changed through the decades from 1900 to recent years. Much has radically changed or disappeared today, not only industries and buildings have gone but also people and street scenes, many popular places of entertainment and much more. This fascinating photographic history of lost Norwich will appeal to all those who live in the area or know it well, as well as those who remember it from previous decades.
