This work explains and challenges UK government thinking about reforming the professions in health care. Chapters cover developments in nurse-led care and shifting boundaries in medicine. The unacknowledged role of health care assistants, the place of complementary therapists, carers and patients themselves are considered. There is a focus on clearer visions for the future and on bringing public health more firmly into primary care. Authors are all active researchers whose accounts should be helpful for specialist and non-specialists alike.
