”Jooste covers a lot of ground, but in a page-turning way. However, he does not just relate the bad news; he points a biblical way forward that is as deep as our complicity with the powers of this age. I heartily recommend this work!“Michael Horton(J. Gresham Machen Professor of Systematic Theology and Apologetics, Westminster Seminary California, Escondido, California)”... Simon Jooste paints a compelling biblical picture of the church—a gathered, dual-citizen community of weak and suffering pilgrims destined for heavenly glory. “Pete Smuts(Professor of New Testament, The Bible Institute of South Africa, Cape Town, South Africa)”At a time when the church is tempted by nationalism on the right and cultural Marxism on the left, Simon Jooste offers a timely and compelling call to recover our primary allegiance to Christ.“Antonio Coppola(Academic Dean, Mukhanyo Theological College, Pretoria, South Africa)”Moving past the triumphalist who wields doctrine for political gain and the postmodern who co-opts faith to elevate the unencumbered self, Jooste thoughtfully maps the only faithful pathway forward: that of the crucified Christ.“Dr. James Berry(Chair of the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown, West Virginia)”Despite complaints about imperialism, colonialism, and Western hegemony, Simon Jooste's provocative critique of South African Protestant theology reveals the West's ongoing dominance even in the ideas most designed to liberate indigenous and oppressed peoples from their alleged Western oppressors. Jooste may not convince all readers, but he shows clearly that those early modern ideas have much to offer in a post-modern world. “D. G. Hart(Professor of History, Hillsdale College, Michigan)
