David B. Stein is professor of psychology at Longwood University, a Virginia state school. He is the author of four books on medication-free cognitive behavioral treatments of children and teens, one of which was a national bestseller. He is a consultant with the Virginia State Police, serving as a team member for hostage and crisis negotiations, threat assessment, critical response and debriefing, psychological profiling, and primary investigations.

Stein offers the REST system (Real Economy System for Teens...) with the promise that, if employed correctly, it can solve behavior problems within weeks. Stein also discusses how to cope with teens with deep psychological issues, offers methods of teaching values and suggests ways to enhance communication.
