Petra Hlov is a fiction writer and the recipient of several literary awards, including Czechia's highest literary recognitions-the Magnesia Litera, the Josef kvoreck Award and the Ji Orten Award. The English translation of her debut novel All This Belongs to Me, translated by Alex Zucker, won the ALTA National Translation Award. Hlov lives in Prague, where she is a regular commentator on current events for the Czech press. She studied language, culture and anthropology at universities in Prague, Ulaanbaatar and New York, and was a Fulbright scholar in the USA. Her ten novels and three plays have been translated into thirteen languages. Her socio-critical satire The Movement, published by World Editions, continues to challenge sexual norms. The Long Version is her latest feminist novel, asking important questions about the #MeToo movement.Alex Zucker has translated novels by Zuzana hov, Magdalena Platzov, Jchym Topol, Bianca Bellov, Petra Hlov, J. R. Pick, Tom Zmekal, Josef Jedlika, Heda Margolius Kovly, Patrik Ouednk and Miloslava Holubov. His translation of Petra Hlov's Three Plastic Rooms and Jchym Topol's The Devil's Workshop received Writing in Translation awards from English PEN; in 2010 he won the National Translation Award from the American Literary Translators Association for his Englishing of Petra Hlov's debut novel, All This Belongs to Me; and in 2023 his translation of the Bianca Bellov novel The Lake was the winner of the EBRD Literature Prize.
