    Beskrivning

Heterogeneous catalysis plays a central role in the global energy paradigm, with practically all energy-related process relying on a catalyst at a certain point. The application of heterogeneous catalysts will be of paramount importance to achieve the transition towards low carbon and sustainable societies. This book provides an overview of the design, limitations and challenges of heterogeneous catalysts for energy applications. In an attempt to cover a broad spectrum of scenarios, the book considers traditional processes linked to fossil fuels such as reforming and hydrocracking, as well as catalysis for sustainable energy applications such as hydrogen production, photocatalysis, biomass upgrading and conversion of CO2 to clean fuels. Novel approaches in catalysts design are covered, including microchannel reactors and structured catalysts, catalytic membranes and ionic liquids. With contributions from leaders in the field, Heterogeneous Catalysis for Energy Applications will be an essential toolkit for chemists, physicists, chemical engineers and industrials working on energy.

    Mer om författaren

Dr Tomas R. Reina is a lecturer in Chemical Engineering and the leader of the Catalysis Unit at the University of Surrey. He holds a PhD in Chemistry with a strong background in heterogeneous catalysis, reaction engineering and materials science. He has broad expertise in the development of advanced catalysts for energy conversion and sustainability. Currently, he is the PI several projects in the area of CO2 utilisation and green routes for chemicals and fuel production (sponsored by EPSRC and the Royal Society). Dr Reina has co-authored +50 research papers in high impact factor journals (including for example Chemical Reviews I.F:52), 4 book chapters, 4 patents and +70 conference contributions (including invited talks and keynote presentations). His research in the field of catalysis has been internationally recognized with several awards and distinctions from prestigious institutions including the European Federation of Catalysis Societies (EFCATS) the Spanish Society of Catalysis (SECAT) and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).Prof. José A. Odriozola is Chair of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Sevilla since 1997 and Research Professor of the Materials Science Institute of Sevilla, Spain. Fellow of the Spanish Society of Catalysis and of the American Chemical Society, Visiting or invited Professor at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, University of Rennes 1, Universidad Nacional Autónoma of Mexico and University of Strasbourg. Head of the Materials Science and Technology Panel of the Spanish National Agency for Evaluation and Prospective, ANEP (2004-2006). From November 2008 to February 2016 Head of the Inorganic Chemistry Department. From September 2009 Head of the doctoral School of the University of Sevilla and Extremadura on Science and Technology of Materials. Head of the Surface Science and Catalysis Laboratory since 1996. Prof. Odriozola, has focused his research in the surface chemistry of materials. Among these studies catalyst synthesis and characterization of surface species under reaction conditions are especially noteworthy. Moreover, as a result of the strong cooperation with copper and steel mills of the region the group has acquired a reputed expertise on the surface characterisation of steels and other metallic substrates. This expertise together with the background in Catalysis has driven the group to develop a new research line focused on the manufacture and study of micromonoliths and microchannel reactors for energetic and environmental catalytic applications including CO2 utilisation. He has published +300 peer-reviewed publications including 11 patents.
