The Land of Mist

In the third and final novel featuring pugnacious scientist Professor Challenger, reporter Edward Malone embarks on his biggest adventure yet: an investigation into the uncharted provinces of the Great Beyond. Whispered reports from Atlantis and warnings of a Second Coming, private seances where ectoplasmic figures take shape, haunted houses and ghostly manifestations – these and other ethereal wonders lie in wait for the undaunted explorer of the unknown. But will Malone’s findings convince the notoriously sceptical Challenger of the existence of a spiritual world?First published in 1926, the same year in which his two-volume History of Spiritualism appeared, The Land of Mist reflects its author’s keen interest and strong belief in the paranormal. A far cry from the ratiocinations of Sherlock Holmes, this novel shows Conan Doyle grappling with the greatest mystery of all, and his desperate quest for an answer.
