Honest Thief

A lodger named Emelyan, a wadded greatcoat, a narrator who wants to be good. Dostoyevsky's An Honest Thief is an unabridged English listening in a single room: pity and drink sharing a bed, kindness becoming a job of food and lectures, then the missing coat as a verdict. Compassion tested, not quite refused. No courtroom - only the apartment, and a question about honesty you can hear in the pause. A Petersburg lodging, a stolen coat, a mercy that will not stay simple.
