    Beskrivning

Love, longing, and art intertwine in this sumptuous tribute to Frida Kahlo. Featuring an anthology of love poems by more than a dozen poets from the Spanish-speaking world, the book explores the passions that shaped Kahlo's life and fuelled her creativity. An evocative overview of her life and artistic practice traces her unique techniques and visionary approach, while lavish full-colour reproductions of her paintings, drawings, and photographs bring her world vividly to life. Woven throughout are intimate quotations from Kahlo's letters and diaries, revealing a voice at once fierce, tender, and unforgettable. This is a celebration of love in all its forms, seen through the heart and art of one of the twentieth century's most compelling figures.Love poetry from some of the greatest authors of the Spanish-speaking world including:Delmira Agostini, Carlos Pellicer, Jorge Luis Borges, Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Antonio Machado, Octavio Paz

About the artistMexican artist Frida Kahlo is remembered for her surreal self-portraits, expressing her pain and passion in bold, vibrant colours. Her celebration of Mexican culture was often interwoven with her depiction of the female experience.Kahlo suffered from polio as a child then as a teen she nearly died in a bus accident which damaged her spine, shattered her pelvis, dislocated her shoulder and broke her foot. While recovering she began painting, trying to digest her experience of both physical and emotional pain through her art. Self-portraits were important and she produced over 50 of them."I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best." - Frida KahloShe produced around 200 paintings, sketches and drawings in her lifetime. Her stormy relationship with her husband, fellow artist Diego Rivera, was another subject of her work.About the author of the IntroductionCheryl Robson is an award-winning writer, editor and filmmaker who has commissioned, designed and edited many acclaimed full-colour books including PL Henderson's Unravelling Women's Art and The Arab-Israeli Cookbook by Robin Soans which won a Gourmand award for Best Foodbook and a Special Jury Prize for Peace.
