University Island is a novel in verse, set in the Classical world and inspired by a real university's recent travails. This work's profound theme is the slow physical and psychological collapse of its likable, self-satirizing ‘failed lecturer’ who challenges the politicized, devalued academic system. István Vörös is the author of twenty-five collections of poetry, four collections of short stories, three novels, and three books of essays. His writings have been translated into over 20 languages, including his novel Thomas Mann's Overcoat in Ottilie Mulzet's English translation.Ágnes Lehóczky has published published six poetry collections in the UK, most recently Apropos Paradise Square: On a Literature of Consolation (Pamenar Press, 2025).Adam Piette is a poet and the co-editor of the poetry journal Blackbox Manifold. His poetry is published as the pamphlet nights as dreaming, the collection CCCLXV and, most recently, Lies Blurring Here (Broken Sleep Books, 2026).
