    Dr. Paolo Bertoldi is Senior Expert at the European Commission Directorate General Joint Research Centre (JRC) and Project Leader for the Energy Efficiency. He has been working with the European Commission since 1986,  first in the research department in the Joint European Taurus facility for nuclear fusion, then since 1993 at Directorate General Energy and Transport in Brussels Belgium, where he was in charge of EU regulatory and voluntary programs for energy efficiency in end-use equipment, buildings and industry. Since May 2001, he has been at the JRC in Ispra, Italy, in charge of research activities on energy efficiency policy analysis, the efficient use of and innovative policy instruments for energy efficiency. He managed the GreenLight, GreenBuilding, and Motor Challenge and Standby Initiative programs. He is a recognised expert on the Energy Service Company industry. He has published over 100 papers on energy efficiency in scientific journals and conference proceedings, and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Springer journal, Energy Efficiency.  Dr. Bertoldi holds a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padova.
