Beskrivning
The Handbook of Politics of Food Security provides a comprehensive overview of the political aspects of food security. It contains contributions from rising and leading scholars across the Global North and the Global South, united by a shared commitment to a planetary health perspective and its core ethical norms of distributive justice, intergenerational responsibility, the rights of non-human life, the precautionary principle, and the right to know. With accelerating environmental degradation, geopolitical tensions and conflicts, and changing diets, food security is an immense and growing global challenge. This handbook is organised into four sections. The first discusses the core concepts and measures of food security. The second explores how food systems are governed and shaped at global and national levels, including through the lens of food regime theory. The third examines inequalities within and across food systems, with particular attention paid to rights, agency, and food sovereignty. The fourth addresses the environmental and ecological dimensions of food security, considering pathways towards greater sustainability and resilience.Across these sections, recurring themes emerge, including the role of global food regimes and resistance to them, debates over food sovereignty and the right to food, new ways of measuring food security, and the politics of power, land, and technology within food systems. The handbook will be of interest to students, researchers, and policymakers in political studies, security studies, food studies, human geography, sociology, environmental studies, and health.
