"I cannot forget Carcosa where black stars hang in the heavens; where the shadows of men's thoughts lengthen in the afternoon, when the twin suns sink into the lake of Hali; and my mind will bear for ever the memory of the Pallid Mask."

While the first four stories can be classified as a horror/mystery genre, the rest is mainly classical fiction with romance as a driving force. The stories in collection are, however, interlinked by either the mysterious book "The King in Yellow", or by recurring characters, places, and even some other minor elements (colour yellow, for example). The book, which has been very much influential on weird-fiction related literature/writers since its publication, is, of course, an alluring treat for classical reading of late-Victorian era, especially for those who are into decadent literature.

Good book, but choose wisely, buy another edition (choose some established publishing house instead), since this edition by "Micheal Smith" has cheapy and most likely AI-generated illustrations inside, with distorted proportions.
