Beskrivning
Johann Friedrich Bottger (1682–1719) was a true pioneer. He was a pharmacist, alchemist and businessman. His works not only bear witness to exceptional craftsmanship, but – alongside the porcelain he later invented– represent a novelty on the European continent: stoneware in its most modern artistic form. Over the course of decades, the author and expert Angela Grafin von Wallwitz has compiled knowledge and material to distinguish between Bottger stoneware from Dresden and Meissen, which is now published in this volume alongside works from the Doris and Stanford Marks Collection.
