King Asoka: A Love Story

After conquering Kalinga in 261 BC, Asoka, a Maurya King, relinquished war and his religion and became a Buddhist. What transformed him? We do not know. Perhaps, it was a deep personal pain. The incredible story of great Asoka is told here for the first time. It is the story of a King who knew ambition, intrigue, murder, and war, too well. Yet he became, as H.G. Wells said, the greatest King in world history. It is an inspiring story for all: today's leaders, young men and women. Asoka has shaped today's India more than any other leader: vegetarianism, compassion for all life, religious tolerance, and love for peace. Buddhism is his gift to the world.
