Anne Elliot, daughter of the vain Sir Walter Elliot, fell in love with and was engaged to a naval officer, Captain Wentworth when she was nineteen years old. Captain Wentworth don"t have a fortune and Anne was persuaded by her father and a family friend Lady Russel to break off the engagement.
