The City of God, Volume 2 is a continuation of Saint Augustine's early fifth-century philosophical and theological writings. Augustine continues his investigation of the essence of God, the issue of evil, and the connection between the individual and society in this book. Additionally, he examines the idea of the bodily resurrection, the nature of the afterlife, and the function of the Church in society. In contrast to the City of God, which is everlasting and pursues the greatest welfare for everyone, Augustine contends that the earthly city is corrupt and only looks out for itself. In order to facilitate communication between the two cities and to help people get closer to God, he highlights the significance of the Church.
