Blueberry Muffin Nobody Made

The mayor died with a blueberry muffin in his hand.  Yue Lin came home to Willow Hollow to do one thing: reopen her mother's bakery, keep her head down, and leave again before anyone got attached. She has done this before. She is very good at it.  Then Douglas Pemberton sat down on the bench outside her front door at four-thirty in the morning and never got up.  The muffin in his hand was wrapped in Yue's paper band. Her name was on it. The whole town recognized it in under an hour.  There is only one problem.  Yue has never made a blueberry muffin in her life.  Not since her mother died. There are no blueberries in her kitchen, no recipe card for them on the wall, and no reason on earth for one of her muffins to be in a dead man's hand.  But the almond flour on her second shelf has been opened. Two pounds of it are gone. Her mother's recipe card has a smudge on it that she did not put there. And the back door she has been telling everyone was broken turns out to have been locked from the outside.  Someone has been in her kitchen.  Someone who knew where everything was. Someone who knew the shop well enough to fake the little hand-lettered card Yue leaves on the day-old basket — and who did not know the one thing Yue changed when she came home.  With her shop sealed by the county, her savings running out, and a state investigator building a case against her, Yue starts asking the questions nobody in Willow Hollow wants to answer. What is the town really planning to do with the old mill? Why did her mother stop speaking to the woman who runs the Historical Society? And who, in a town where everyone has known everyone for two hundred years, has a key that nobody has ever counted?  She has one ally — a deputy sheriff with a stack of unmailed letters in his desk drawer and a habit of saying exactly one true thing per conversation. She has one witness — an orange cat who has moved into her kitchen without permission and refuses to be useful. And she has three weeks before the town decides she did it.  Because the real question was never who poisoned the muffin.  It was who swapped it.  "e;Willow Hollow Bakery Mysteries"e; is a clean, warm, small-town cozy series with a slow-burn romance, a cat who minds his own business, and three recipes in every book.
