How do people manage their environments? What processes are basic to the interactions between people and their environments? These questions are central to almost all areas of psychology but in a more narrow sense are the heart of environmental psychology. Some environmental studies focus on the antecedents of person-environment interactions, others on the effects of the environment on the individual, and others on outcomes. Still others focus on the processes by which people attempt to manipulate their surroundings. This volume, the second in a series, is concerned with one of these processes - control, actual and perceived, that individuals exercise over their environment.

First published in 1982. It is not difficult to understand why interest in psychological aspects of energy production, consumption, and conservation has increased during the past decade. The stresses of living or working near power plants, the problems inherent in reducing fuel consumption, and the many applications of behavioral science to these issues have all received attention of late. This volume, the third in a series, is concerned with these issues-the ways in which psychology can contribute to understanding and helping to solve what has generally been termed an ''energy crisis”.

Cardiovascular Disorders and Behavior
Handbook of Psychology and Health, Volume 3
Inbunden, Engelska, 1983
598 kr
Skickas inom 10-15 vardagar
First published in 1983. This is Volume III of the Handbook of Psychology and Health. Cardiovascular diseases are arguably the largest cause of death in the United States. This statement attests to the importance of understanding these disorders, in order to be able to prevent, ameliorate, and reduce the devastation which this set of diseases can cause. Cardiovascular disorders have also been the most intensely studied of those health hazards that have come to the attention of behavioral scientists. The many ways in which these problems are influenced by environmental, social, and behavioral factors have provided a fertile ground for study by investigators of many disciplines and persuasions. For these two reasons, it is appropriate that a volume in this series be directed toward the study of cardiovascular disease.
