Introduction to Thermal and Fluid Engineering combines coverage of basic thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer for a one- or two-term course for a variety of engineering majors. The book covers fundamental concepts, definitions, and models in the context of engineering examples and case studies. It carefully explains the methods used to evaluate changes in equilibrium, mass, energy, and other measurable properties, most notably temperature. It then also discusses techniques used to assess the effects of those changes on large, multi-component systems in areas ranging from mechanical, civil, and environmental engineering to electrical and computer technologies.Includes a motivational student study guide on downloadable resources to promote successful evaluation of energy systemsThis material helps readers optimize problem solving using practices to determine equilibrium limits and entropy, as well as track energy forms and rates of progress for processes in both closed and open thermodynamic systems. Presenting a variety of system examples, tables, and charts to reinforce understanding, the book includes coverage of: How automobile and aircraft engines work Construction of steam power plants and refrigeration systems Gas and vapor power processes and systems Application of fluid statics, buoyancy, and stability, and the flow of fluids in pipes and machinery Heat transfer and thermal control of electronic components Keeping sight of the difference between system synthesis and analysis, this book contains numerous design problems. It would be useful for an intensive course geared toward readers who know basic physics and mathematics through ordinary different

Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Sociology - Religion, London Metropolitan University (Working Lives Research Institute), course: Dprof Researching Work, language: English, abstract: This work explores the spiritual thought and bodily work that has been an integral part of Islamic faith. The discussion in the work aims to examine the Islamic process of spiritual conversion and bodily work that began for the Bangladeshis with migration and human capital investments defined by Arabic power that would provide the basis of identity and social organization. The discussion asserts the argument that the Islamic faith, through the reproductions of kin networks, as well as the operation of a specific set of social practices and social action suffused with Islamic representations, was reproduced by the Bengali workers, replicated through migration within the predominance of the family to transform the urban space of the London borough Tower Hamlets into an sub-Islamic field with religious citizens with religious agency and identities. A social constructionist approach was undertaken for the study which aimed to provide an additional insight into a number of keys areas with a distinct focus on faith and how faith as a social lexical marker affected the first and second generation of the Bangladeshi s experiences and views pertaining to social solidarity and work. The research aimed to explore the mutually constituted relationship of the Bangladeshi people of Tower Hamlets, the social structures, the spheres of Tower Hamlets, the hybrid actors, their networks, their habitus and the reproduction of the distinctly ethnic and islamicized field and capitals in social life.

Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A, Birkbeck, University of London, language: English, abstract: The understanding and assessment of culture is a vital part of the management of an organization and the ability of managers to understand and assess the culture can play a crucial role in how effectively individuals and teams and organizations operate. Morgan (1998, p138) suggested the culture of an organization could be found in the ' organizational structure, rules, policies, goals, missions, job descriptions and standard operating procedures'....and this acted as a 'primary points of reference for the way people think about and make sense of the contexts in which they work'. There are a varied number of definitions of culture which encompasses the individual, local, national and global cultures that exist within organizations and individuals. Dutch author, Hofstede (1984, p51) offered a broad and globally encompassing definition by suggesting culture is the collective programming of the human mind that distinguishes members of one human group from another. Culture in this sense is a system of collectively held values

Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Sociology - Methodology and Methods, grade: 2:1, London Metropolitan University (Working Lives Research Institute), course: Dprof Researching Work, language: English, abstract: This paper examines two qualitative approaches to research and assert the argument that the foundations of good research depend on the mastery of the researcher to deploy the correct methodology for the chosen research area by paying attention to the crucial factors of a well planned systematic approach to research. The paper argues that both Grounded Theory and Ethnographic approaches can facilitate research that renders a reading that is both informative and clearly understandable in a format that is easily absorbed and understood by the reader which is honest unbiased and transparent, that can establish a workable set of outcomes that maintain interest and benefit the reader, researcher, sponsor and decision makers.

This book is about the democratization process of both society and governance. It deals with the existing conditions and problems associated with the democratization and decentralization process. It highlights the necessary changes to be introduced in the administrative system at the grassroots to enable the decentralization to work, since the very purpose of creating lower level institutions for governance is the inadequacy of representative democracy to solve the problems in India. Based on the report of the Second Administrative Reform CommissiDh, areas where attention is needed for strengthening local governments in India are clearly dealt with. Also the inclusion of vulnerable and marginalized in governance and development is emphasized. This book will be useful for policy-makers, researchers and academicians working in the area of Decentralized Governance.
