Bayés’ syndrome refers to the association between interatrial block and supraventricular arrhythmias—mainly the occurrence of atrial fibrillation. It is also a risk factor for cardio-embolic stroke. PREFACIOMe siento honrado de que me hayan pedido escribir el prefacio de esta obra. Considero que la educación médica continúa siendo el mejor vehículo para mejorar la calidad de atención de nuestros pacientes, y que un grupo de académicos del continente americano hayan decidido concentrar todos los aspectos de la salud cardiovascular (o su mayoría) en una sola obra, y que lo hagan convocando a investigadores de habla hispana, es un mérito en sí mismo, ya que no existe una obra comparable en la literatura en español.En nuestra experiencia, el idioma continúa siendo una barrera en la comunicación científica. Como editor de la JACC (Journal of the American College of Cardiology), junto a mi equipo emprendimos la tarea de traducir artículos destacados a idiomas con gran volumen de lectores: español, chino y portugués. La edición de la JACC en español, de la mano del profesor Bayés de Luna, se transformó rápidamente en una herramienta de elección para el hispanoparlante.
