The presence of bodies and sex in detective fiction has been a long-term feature of this internationally popular genre. Titillation is at the centre of narratives reliant upon discovery and revelation: motives and criminals are slowly revealed, along with sexualized and violated bodies – from femmes fatales to the corpses of victims. A satisfying, gratifying genre for its readership, the detective novel promises the disruption and subsequent restoration of order in societies tarnished by disillusionment which hope for a better future. This book takes as its focus examples of detective fiction from Cuba and Mexico during or in the aftermath of huge social upheaval (the Special Period and the War on Drugs), analyzing representations of sexualities, bodies, and the genre itself. Through an investigation of novels by Leonardo Padura and Amir Valle of Cuba, and Bef and Rogelio Guedea of Mexico, this work investigates increasingly fluid sexualities and bodies in challenging examples of metaphysical detective fiction, a particularly anxious subgenre which challenges both the structures and limits of the detective novel and the reader’s understanding of true and false and right and wrong, representative of troubling periods of severe social disruption for Cuba and Mexico.

El libro ofrece una visión integral de algunas de las vivencias y luchas de las mujeres, así como de la representación de ellas dentro del conflicto armado colombiano, destacando sus resiliencias y aportes a la reelaboración de la memoria para contribuir a la verdad, la reparación, la justicia y la paz. Esta investigación colectiva incorpora la perspectiva de género, teorías y metodologías feministas, posturas críticas de los derechos humanos y conocimiento situado, para amplificar las voces de las mujeres sobrevivientes, a fin de fomentar el diálogo horizontal y el intercambio de conocimientos en la Colombia de los posacuerdos. Se cuestiona la representación de las experiencias de las mujeres en el Museo Nacional de Colombia, señalando la omisión de sus historias en una exposición que destaque su identidad y ciudadanía. Por otro lado, se exploran las estrategias de comunicación digital de la Ruta Pacífica de las Mujeres (RPM), enfatizando la visión de transformación simbólica para retratar a las mujeres como agentes activas en línea. Se profundiza en la recuperación de la memoria histórica mediante la narración de parte de las historias de mujeres sobrevivientes del conflicto en el departamento de Boyacá. Asimismo, se subraya la importancia de reconstruir esta memoria orientada a la reparación integral, involucrando distintos enfoques para reconocer la verdad sobre hechos que impactaron a diversas víctimas. Los anteriores temas convergen en revelar la resistencia y agencia de las mujeres para afrontar los desafíos de los posacuerdos, con el fin de visibilizar sus voces en las transformaciones socioeconómicas y políticas con la esperanza de construir la paz.
