The primary emphasis of the Seminar is on the modes of excitation in both spherical and deformed nuclei. Several topics at the forefront of current research in nuclear structure are covered by leading physicists. The main themes are: Single-particle and Collective Degrees of Freedom in Low-energy Modes of Excitation, The Nature of High-spin States in Deformed and Spherical Nuclei and The Role of Giant Resonances in Nuclear Structure.

Held in May 1992 in Italy, the 4th International Spring Seminar on Nuclear Physics focused on recent developments which enhanced our understanding of the role of the various degrees of freedom which come into play in the nucleus. Consisting of four sessions, the first three sessions dealt with both theoretical and experimental issues centering on quarks and meson degrees of freedom, single-particle degrees of freedom and collective degrees of freedom. The fourth session discussed several important contributions that nuclear structure physics has made to the other research fields.

This seminar focuses on recent achievements and new goals of nuclear structure in both experiment and theory. Several topics at the forefront of current research in this field are covered by major experts. The main themes are: exotic nuclei; the present role and perspectives of the shell model; modes of excitation in deformed and superdeformed nuclei; and nuclear astrophysics.

This volume discusses some of the main achievements and perspectives of nuclear structure physics for both experiment and theory. The main themes are: spectroscopy of exotic nuclei; from nucleon-nucleon interaction to nuclear structure; recent developments in the study of collective excitations; nuclear structure physics in other research fields.

The Cortona Conference is a biennial meeting of all Italian groups from about 20 universities who are active in theoretical nuclear physics.This volume presents the main achievements and perspectives of Italian theoretical nuclear physics, with particular reference to the last two years.The first part contains the invited talks on: (1) Nuclear structure, (2) Light nuclei physics, (3) Hadronic degrees of freedom, (4) Nuclear physics with electroweak probes, (5) Nuclear dynamics and nuclear matter, and (6) First results about the AIACE experiment. Furthermore it includes two longer communications on: (7) Nuclear physics with exotic beams, and (8) Solution of the folding problem in protein models. The second part contains contributed papers.

This volume is devoted to recent achievements and new challenges in the field of nuclear structure. Both experimental and theoretical issues in the forefront of current research on the subject are covered by leading physicists.

The 9th Conference on Problems in Theoretical Nuclear Physics was organized as part of the project “Theoretical Physics of Nuclei and Many-Body Systems” involving 17 Italian universities and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Research and University.This volume includes the invited papers on the main subjects of the project and all the individual contributions on special topics. It reviews the work performed in the last two years by the participating Italian community of nuclear theorists. In addition, national and international perspectives are focussed by a panel on the future programmes of the large Italian laboratories and of the experimental community, as well as in a general review by A Faessler.

Key Topics in Nuclear Structure is the eighth in a well established series of conferences and is devoted to the discussion of significant topics in nuclear structure. Both experimental and theoretical issues at the forefront of current research on the subject are covered by leading physicists. In particular, on the experimental side the state of the art and the envisaged developments in the most important laboratories, where rare isotope beams are available, are reviewed in detail.
