This book constitutes the proceedings of the 26th International Working Conference on Requirements Engineering - Foundation for Software Quality, REFSQ 2020, which was due to be held in Pisa, Italy, in March 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held virtually in June 2020.

The 14 full papers and 7 short papers in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 84 submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: requirements specification; requirements documentation; privacy and legal requirements; stakeholders feedback and training; agile methods and requirements comprehension; requirements modelling; requirements visualization.

The 12 full technical design and scientific evaluation papers, 8 short research previews and vision papers, and 5 experience reports presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 78 submissions.

They were organized in topical sections as follows: Requirements communication and conceptualization; NLP and machine learning for AI; RE for artificial intelligence; crowd RE; and RE in practice.

The book collects the keynote contributions and the papers presented at the “8th Italian Conference of Researchers in Geotechnical Engineering 2023, CNRIG’23”. The conference was held on July 5–7, 2023, at the University of Palermo (Italy), and it was organized under the auspices of the National Group of Geotechnical Engineering (GNIG). The event has been organized to promote interaction among geotechnical engineering and applied sciences, with special focus on technological and digital innovations. The book covers a wide range of classical and emerging topics in geotechnics, including innovation in laboratory testing and in situ monitoring, thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical behavior of geo-materials, computational geomechanics, analyses of instability processes in seismic conditions, probabilistic approaches, resilience of critical infrastructures and advances in risk mitigation strategies, and eco-friendly solutions for soils and rocks stabilization.

This book is intended forpostgraduate students, researchers, and practitioners working on geotechnical engineering and related areas.

This handbook provides a comprehensive guide on how natural language processing (NLP) can be leveraged to enhance various aspects of requirements engineering (RE), leading the reader from the exploration of fundamental concepts and techniques to the practical implementation of NLP for RE solutions in real-world scenarios.

The book features contributions from researchers with both academic and industrial experience. It is organized into three parts, each focusing on different aspects of applying NLP to RE: Part I – NLP for Downstream RE Tasks delves into the application of NLP techniques to tasks that are typically part of the RE process. It includes chapters on NLP for requirements classification, requirements similarity and retrieval, requirements traceability, defect detection, and automated terminology and relations extraction. Next, Part II – NLP for Specialised Types of Requirements and Artefacts explores how NLP can be tailored to handle specific requirement types and artefacts. The chapters cover legal requirements processing, privacy requirements acquisition and analysis, user feedback intelligence, mining issue trackers, and analysis of user story requirements. Eventually, Part III – NLP for RE in Practice addresses practical applications and tools for implementing NLP in RE. It includes a chapter on the different tools that use NLP techniques for RE tasks, followed by chapters on empirical evaluation of tools, practical guidelines for selecting and evaluating NLP techniques, guidelines on using large language models (LLMs) in RE, and dealing with data challenges in RE.

The book is designed for a diverse audience, including Ph.D. students, researchers, and practitioners. Ph.D. students can benefit from a comprehensive guide to the topic of NLP for RE and acquire the essential background for their studies. Researchers can identify further triggers for scientific exploration, based on the currently settled knowledge in the field. Eventually, practitioners facing challenges with NL requirements can find practical insights to enhance their RE processes using NLP.

In this spirit, the ATMSS International Workshop “Advances in Laboratory Testing & Modelling of Soils and Shales” (Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland; 18-20 January 2017) has been organized to promote the exchange of ideas, experience and state of the art among major experts active in the field of experimental testing and modelling of soils and shales. The Workshop has been organized under the auspices of the Technical Committees TC-101 “Laboratory Testing”, TC-106 “Unsaturated Soils” and TC-308 “Energy Geotechnics” of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

This volume contains the invited keynote and feature lectures, as well as the papers that have been presented at the Workshop. The topics of the lectures and papers cover a wide range of theoretical and experimental research, including unsaturated behaviour of soils and shales, multiphysical testing of geomaterials, hydro–mechanical behaviour of shales and stiff clays, the geomechanical behaviour of the Opalinus Clay shale, advanced laboratory testing for site characterization and in–situ applications, and soil – structure interactions.

This book collects selected full papers presented at the International Symposium on Energy Geotechnics 2018 (SEG-2018), held on 25th – 28th

 September 2018, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). It covers a wide range of topics in energy geotechnics, including energy geostructures, energy geostorage, thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical behaviour of geomaterials, unconventional resources, hydraulic stimulation, induced seismicity, CO2 geological storage, and nuclear waste disposal as well as topics such as tower and offshore foundations.

The book is intended for postgraduate students, researchers and practitioners working on geomechanics and geotechnical engineering for energy-related applications.

Significant advancements in the experimental analysis of soils and shales have been achieved during the last few decades. Outstanding progress in the field has led to the theoretical development of geomechanical theories and important engineering applications.

This book provides the reader with an overview of recent advances in a variety of advanced experimental techniques and results for the analysis of the behaviour of geomaterials under multiphysical testing conditions. Modern trends in experimental geomechanics for soils and shales are discussed, including testing materials in variably saturated conditions, non-isothermal experiments, micro-scale investigations and image analysis techniques. Six theme papers from leading researchers in experimental geomechanics are also included.
