Uno de los libros que más me ha marcado en la vida ha sido Si esto es un hombre, el relato poético, conmovedor y a la vez crudo de Primo Levi sobre su experiencia en Auschwitz. El texto no solo es una crónica del sufrimiento humano, sino un señalamiento claro de la complicidad compartida por quienes, de manera activa o pasiva, volteamos la espalda frente al dolor de los demás. Sobre estos temas se había escrito antes y se seguirá escribiendo. Sin embargo, lo que siempre me ha conmovido de la obra de Levi es que logra iluminar lo que nos une como seres humanos y nos muestra que es a partir de esta humanidad compartida que logramos perseverar para enfrentar la adversidad y ayudar a desconocidos,aún en las situaciones en las que solo nos preocuparíamos por nuestra propia supervivencia.Mientras leía el libro de Alicia Ely Yamin pensé en Primo Levi, pues la obra que aquí presento no es un manual académico sobre el conjunto de normas que conforman el derecho internacional de los derechos humanos y su interacción con la salud; es, por el contrario, un llamado a usar las herramientas poderosas que este sistema de derechos provee para entender el acceso a la salud como un asunto que nos debe importar a todos, dada nuestra humanidad compartida. Leo el texto, además, como una contribución feminista y crítica a los debates sobre la salud pública sin perder la fe en el poder transformador del derecho.Es feminista, pues tanto la propuesta, los datos que se presentan, así como los temas que se abordan, están tejidos de manera literaria con relatos personales. Es feminista, además, porque la autora no esconde la rabia que le produce la desigualdad ni la pasión con la que la enfrenta. Como consecuencia, a pesar de la sofisticación de su apuesta teórica, no es un libro frío, acartonado, distante, más preocupado con demostrar erudición que con proponer soluciones o alternativas. Por el contrario, es un relato a veces cálido, siempre personal, generoso académicamente y comprometido políticamente.
