El conflicto armado en Colombia ha impuesto costos económicos sobre el país y la población por más de cincuenta años. Si bien durante los últimos años se han llevado a cabo estudios para cuantificar algunos de estos costos, los esfuerzos han sido aislados y se han publicado en un lenguaje académico que restringe su difusión y discusión. Conocer y cuantificar los costos del conflicto es fundamental para identificar políticas públicas que los mitiguen y reduzcan, durante y después del fin del mismo. Esto, además de contribuir a diseñar procesos de restitución adecuados para las víctimas de la violencia, permitirá al país dinamizar su desarrollo económico y distribuir de manera más equitativa sus beneficios.Tres son los objetivos de este libro. El primero es proveer evidencia adicional sobre los costos monetarios y no monetarios del conflicto en Colombia. Con este fin, se estimarán los costos desagregados para ciertos grupos de la población que están expuestos con mayor intensidad a la violencia, los costos agregados del conflicto en Colombia, y la disposición de la sociedad para emprender procesos de reconciliación y restitución a las víctimas. El segundo objetivo es dar ideas para un eventual proceso de posconflicto. Para ello, cada capítulo analiza los diversos costos del conflicto y discute potenciales políticas públicas que podrían ayudar a reducir dichos costos, así como contribuir a acelerar el ritmo de crecimiento económico y hacerlo más incluyente. El tercer objetivo es trascender las audiencias académicas para proveer un análisis riguroso en un lenguaje sencillo.
