Con seis apartados de riguroso análisis y un agudo prólogo, en esta obra se presenta la traducción de seis estudios de Wolfgang Schluchter acerca de la teoría sociológica del desencantamiento del mundo de Max Weber. Según esta teoría, desarrollada por medio de las tesis del desencantamiento y la reconstrucción evolutiva, para que haya propiamente un desencantamiento, es necesario que antes hubiera un encantamiento, caracterizado sobre todo por la religión y, con ésta, por la explicación del mundo inmanente a partir del trascendente. No obstante, este proceso posibilita una nueva reactivación del sistema anterior, es decir, un ''reencantamiento''.
