Published Under the Garamond ImprintWomen are estimated to comprise nearly 80 per cent of both paid and unpaid care workers, yet their numbers do not coincide with their influence. Caring For/Caring About explores the complex nature of caring in Canadian society today. It examines the current research on women, home care, and unpaid caregiving, and identifies the social conditions under which caregiving is undertaken. The book examines the global and local forces that shape caregiving, as well as the diverse experiences of women who care.Caring For/Caring About asks how we might create the conditions to make caring possible, for care is, after all, the objective and not the problem.

This book exposes the many faces of health care privatization and its impact on women. It begins with the international context for health care reform and then moves from coast to coast, setting out what is known about the reforms that are underway and about their impact on women. The complexity of the task is obvious; home care, for example, means one thing in Manitoba and another in Ontario. Who pays for it? Who delivers it? Who gets to use it and under what conditions? are questions with different answers in each province - although the two provinces face similar pressures and often get similar advice. Moreover, reforms are significantly changing home care in both provinces and doing so at a rapid pace. Yet it is not easy to find out the precise nature and extent of these reforms, let alone what they mean in practice, especially for women.Just as there are considerable differences across the country in terms of reforms, there are considerable differences among women in terms of how they connect to health care. This book shows the consequences that reforms have for women as providers and patients, and the impact of these reforms on women's participation in the decision-making process. At the same time, the text never loses sight of the significant differences between women related to their physical, social, economic, cultural/racial, locations and their age and sexual orientation. Which women are affected, in what ways, by which reforms are the central questions in Exposing Privatization, a book that will not only inform but spur action in health care policy and practice.

Our Bodies Are Selves is a look at what it means to be human in a world where medical technology and emerging ethical insight force us to rethink the boundaries of humanity/spirit and man/machine. This book gives us a fresh look at how our expanding biological views of ourselves and our shared evolutionary history shows us a picture that may not always illumine who and where we are as Christians. Offering up Christian theological views of embodiment, the authors give everyday examples of lives of love, faith, and bodily realities that offer the potential to create new definitions of what it means to be a faith community in an increasingly technological age of medicine.

What does geography have to do with the incarnation of God and with our spiritual lives as Christians? We will embark on a theological road trip that explores how geographies are at the heart of understanding of God''s incarnation in the world. It is no surprise to Christians that the center of the incarnation is the person of Jesus Christ--God in flesh made manifest. However, it might be a stretch for some Christians to imagine that the promise that God has become flesh is not only in a person but also in a place: in the creation. Christians need to expand what incarnation means and what it means to be created in the image of God so that the scope of God''s creative and redemptive action and work indeed reaches to the scope of all things: from the outer reaches of space to the inner reaches of our hearts. To be the creatures of God that God calls us to be requires a kind of dual citizenship: within the details of our daily life, attending to the needs of our neighbors, simultaneously knowing we are part of a greater cosmos whose future is still unfolding.
