This is ananthology built from a shared passion for often overlooked and threatenedlandscapes — bogs and other peatlands. And like peat, this book is full ofliving things, including stories. Stories of scientific study, archaeologicaldiscovery; personal stories of suffering and growth. Stories in fiction andfact; in poetry. Stories of damage and threat; of Walshaw Moor; of adventureand love; the peatlands of Papua New Guinea, the Flow Country, Cors Caron andmuch more. Thisanthology from more than forty writers steeped in the landscape of the moorsincludes poetry, stories and essays from deep in the peatlands – a collectionthat delves deep into bogs, the glow of moss, black water and the sweep ofmoorland, the heather burning, the whisky tang of peat. Orca is a woodland surveyor, working and sleeping among the trees. When she meets Nadia, a young woman who needs her help, Orca's stable routine is interrupted and her journey begins. She must choose, again and again, to either follow her instructions for the survey or allow a deeper programming to kick in: the imperative to aid and protect human beings. As Orca and Nadia travel from woodland to woodland, friendships are made, memories start to surface and Orca questions what is real in her surroundings as well as deep within herself.
