Besonders im Hinblick auf transnationale Ordnungen stellt sich auch theoretisch die Frage, ob mehrfache Bürgerschaften in Demokratien unterschiedlicher Form und Größe auf staatlichen und überstaatlichen Ebenen überzeugen.Anna Meine rekonstruiert aktuelle Debatten um transnationale Bürgerschaft, territoriale Rechte und Einbürgerung sowie um mehrfache Staatsbürgerschaft, Welt- und Unionsbürgerschaft. Sie entwickelt anhand der Idee der Komplementarität ein Verständnis für mehrfache, sich ergänzende und zugleich widersprechende demokratische Mitgliedschaften.
